Gemstone Identification & Evaluation
Four-Day Signature Course

Our signature gemstone course is designed to build a strong foundation in the art and science of gemstone identification and evaluation. This immersive, four-day experience expands upon the introductory 101 course and takes students deeper into the world of colored stones. Focusing on the renowned “Big Three” — Ruby, Emerald, and Sapphire — the class also equips participants with the knowledge and confidence to accurately identify virtually any gemstone they encounter.

Throughout the course, students will gain hands-on experience with an extensive collection of more than 400 sample stones, representing a wide range of natural, treated, and synthetic varieties. Instructors guide participants through the use of professional gemological instruments and practical testing methods, reinforcing classroom concepts through detailed demonstrations and one-on-one instruction.

Key topics include the recognition of treatments, enhancements, and synthetics, as well as how these factors influence a gemstone’s appearance, durability, and market value. Students will also learn how to assess gem quality through careful observation of color, clarity, and optical effects — essential skills for anyone working in the jewelry or gemstone industries.

With over 20 contact hours of intensive instruction, this course offers an ideal balance of theory, discussion, and laboratory practice. Whether you’re a jeweler, appraiser, collector, or enthusiast, you’ll leave with a sharper eye, stronger analytical skills, and a deeper appreciation for the beauty and complexity of gemstones.

All students who successfully complete the course will receive an official Certificate of Completion, recognizing their achievement and commitment to professional growth in the field of gemology.
